Deforestation is the phenomenon of reducing forest areas.
The forest constitutes 30.6% of the global land area. Four centuries ago it was 66% and this surface area is still declining. Each year 15.3 billion trees are cut. We have a record in 2016 with the loss of 30 million hectares of forest. According to the World Resources Institute, 80% of the world's original forest cover has been cut down or degraded, mainly over the past 30 years.
