The Republic of Madagascar often called the island continent due to it's area. It is located on the South East African coast, in the Indian Ocean. Madagascar is the fifth biggest island in the world. It stretches 1580 km from the North to the south and 500 km from the East to the West. Its capital is Antananarivo and it is located in the middle of the island. The Island has as neighbours, Comoros, Reunion Island, Republic of Mauritius, Seychelles and on the African continent Mozambique. One of the important characteristics of Madagascar is its economy is dependent on the Malagasy environment. First of all, the island continent is identified by the scientists as incredibly biodiverse. Moreover, according to the UNESCO, 80% to 90% of the species are endemic. Unfortunately with the global warming, over the past year this biodiversity has been threatened. Secondly, the climate plays an important role in the country's economy as agriculture is the main sector of activity. Thirdly, deforestation is also a raising matter for both global warming and the economy of the country. Environmentally, deforestation negatively impacts the general equilibrium of the nature which may lead to irreversible effects.
