[...] Inequalities in Development around the World The two proposed documents are a world map from the UNDP - a UN agency - work in 2013 and an excerpt from an economic article written by Jacques Adda, published in 2012. The proposed map allows to note the level of the Human Development Index (HDI) in 2012 at the global scale and according to a color classification corresponding to the level of HDI in order to allow a comparison between countries. The article, published in the newspaper Alternatives Économiques Report on a phenomenon that is currently affecting India from a macroeconomic point of view: it is enriching, as shown by the GDP indicator, while its HDI level, a development indicator, is not experiencing the same dynamics. [...] This finding is all the more striking as Africa is the only continent without countries having a very high IDH level. Therefore: we note a deep inequality between the countries of the North and the countries of the South through this tool. In addition, document 2 allows us to explain the reasons for these inequalities. In fact, the author highlights causes such as illiteracy, educational delay, or malnutrition as sources of low development in India despite a high GDP.
