The role of the new social networks in the protection of environment in California
Do the new social networks represent a lever of environment conservation and sustainable development? We know that social networks have witnessed an explosive growth since 2005. More and more companies are dealing directly with these websites which regroup sizable chunks of the population. With this strategy, companies can now reach a substantial part of the population, also permitting an interaction with the largest possible target audience.
We will study the opportunities that these social networks represent in an organization such as Wildcoast in the environmental sector. Wildcoast is a non-profit organization which protects and preserves coastal ecosystems and wildlife in California, Central and Latin America by building grassroots support, conducting media campaigns and establishing protected areas. All its missions are reinforced by major support through media campaigns and advertisements in each location. This overwhelming media coverage gives Wildcoast the opportunity to increase the protected areas.
It is true that unlike France, the media has more local priority in the United States. This is why media strategies differ depending on the cities, whether it be San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles or San Diego.
