Since we went to North America last year, we decided to offer you a debate about North American relations (between the USA and Canada), that is to say a perspective on the partnerships, and exchanges between the USA and Canada. We often talk about the USA, but not very often of its neighbor. It is now important to discover this very special relationship between the two giants. Their relationship is one of the closest in the world, as it is built on mutual dependence, common language, and history as part of the new world. However we must mention that Canada is still a part of the Commonwealth, under the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. She appoints a Governor General, who is her representative (or, of the UK). In spite of this, Canada is a federal parliamentary democracy, governed by a prime minister. This position is currently occupied by Stephen Harper. The government runs the country, in an independent way. The border originated with the Treaty of Paris in 1783, but there were a lot of quarrels about it. Nevertheless, we will not talk about the wars in the early years (such as the 1812 war) in this paper, and concentrate instead on the modern relationship.
