Keidanren is the abbreviation for the Japanese "Keizai Dantai Rengokai", the federation of economic organizations. It is one of the most important national federations in Japan. It is essentially a defense organization for important companies. It is said that Japan made its industry development possible due to this organization (with the cooperation of the government and METI, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry). It aimed at getting out of the crisis after the World War II and strengthening Japanese economy. Keidanren was founded in 1946 after World War II. Japan at this time was as devastated economically, as physically. Keidanren wanted to make Japan emerge from the post war crisis, and strengthen its economy to give it a dominant position on the international market. In May 2002, Keidanren and Nikkeiren (Japan Federation of Employers' Associations) merged to form the Japan Business Federation, known in Japanese as the Nippon Keidanren.
