England encouraged the resumption of cons-revolutionaries. It supports a proposed assassination of Bonaparte, according to the Comte d'Artois. The plot was discovered in February 1804. Bonaparte was informed that a member of the royal family was linked to the plot. He shot Duc d'Enghien, although his guilt is not credible, thus constituting a kind of exemplary punishment to deter opponents. This thesis also accredits the seriousness of the plot, the fragility of the consolidation of the Revolution as a whole due to the presence of a 'savior'.
