Abstract
The People's Republic of China is one of the world's largest countries, with a total area amounting to 9.6 million square kilometers, following just behind Russia and Canada.
In terms of climate, it is extremely diverse because of the country's extensive and complex topography. In northeast China, summer is short while winter is long and cold. Precipitation is limited in northwest China where it is cold in winter and hot in summer. In southwest China consisting of low latitudes, the land is elevated high, and has characteristically vertical seasonal zones. In the south of the Nanling Mountains, rain is prolific and the temperatures are high all year round. In central China, there are four distinctive seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. China's population is over 1.3 billion, making it the largest country in the world. According to the 2010 census, 91.51% of the population was of the Han ethnic and 8.49 were part of minority groups.
Even though it is the largest population in the world, the population growth rate is only 0.47%, ranking 156th in the world, which is probably due to the one-child policy. Its national population density (137/km2) is not very high, similar to some countries like Switzerland or the Czech Republic.
