Jane Eyre is a classic novel by English author Charlotte Brontë, first published in 1847 under the pen name "Currer Bell." The story follows the life of the titular character, Jane Eyre, an orphan who grows up in harsh conditions before becoming a governess at Thornfield Hall, where she falls in love with her employer, Mr. Rochester. The novel combines elements of Gothic fiction, romance, and social criticism, exploring themes of morality, independence, and class.
