For this assignment I decided to do a complete introspective analysis of myself during my internship at ELTEG. I tried to apply some of the tools and theories we learned in Change Management class to myself. It doesn't focus on a particular Change. I found out that the things we learned in class could easily be applied to study the behaviors of people in a working environment. They can be used to learn more about a person or an organization in order to find the right way to manage them and be more productive. This assignment helped me better understand the way I act and work in an organization. I talk about my experience in the company and why I went from being very motivated to completely uncommitted, passive and not very reliable. I divided the analysis of my internship into six main parts related to some of the elements we learned in class. I finish my assignment by giving advices on how to better manage me in a working environment and how to make me more productive.
The first thing I did when I arrived on my first day at the office, was to go see Christophe Magnus, the CEO of ELTEG, in his office so he could explain me what I had to do. He told me on what I was going to work on, with who and where. After having explained me all that, I asked him at what time we had to come in the morning. He answered that the other employees used to arrive between 9am and 10am. His answer was a bit evasive, as if it wasn't really important. I knew it was a small Internet-based company and that there was a really relaxed working environment, and therefore the rules weren't very strict. Now that I think about it, and after having attended the Change Management seminar, I realize that Christophe should have established strict ground rules at the very beginning. When he told me that I knew I was going to come at 10 every day and sometimes even later. The fact that the working hours are not very strict and precise made me understand I could do what I like so I arrived late and left early. As we have seen in class, one way of setting ground rules is that everything that is not explicitly forbidden is allowed. In that case, arriving late and leaving early wasn't explicitly forbidden and therefore I took advantage of that. We are all different but I know myself, and I know that you have to put stress on me and establish precise ground rules in order to make me respect the basic rules.
