In the south east of Asia, Hong Kong is located on the eastern side of the Pearl River Delta. The territory was a British colony since 1842 and returned to China in 1997. Since this date, Hong Kong is called The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Half independent, half Chinese, the region has 50 years to become fully integrated into China. Hong Kong is completely embedded in the Anglo-Saxon culture, whether it concerns business, politics, traditions or daily-living. Under the "One country, two systems" policy, Hong Kong is ruled like an Anglo-Saxon country and the People's Republic of China is only militarily and diplomatically represented. Hong Kong is known as the world's most liberal economy and will profit from its very high degree of autonomy until at least 2047. For example, English will remain Hong Kong's official language for decades. Nevertheless, China gets everyday more influence on the city and it is obvious that dramatic changes will happen in the next decades, in politics for example. So far, the Chief Executive, the head of territory and head of government, has always been selected by the Chief Executive Election Committee composed of 800 members, but it was decided in 1997 that a condition of the return of Hong Kong to China was the organization of democratic elections. But the media, and especially the government official Chinese newspapers like The South China Morning Post or the China Daily, give proofs everyday that this is very unlikely to happen.
