He was born in 938 in Torrox or Algeciras, in the Caliphate of Córdoba, and became the most powerful man in the caliphate during the reign of Hisham II. Almanzor came from an Arab family of modest condition, but thanks to his intelligence and ambition, he quickly rose through the administration of the caliphate.
