Here, these animals allow us to redefine nature as a mysterious and almost magical space that is also described by its grandeur and importance. Nature is therefore the source of everything that defines us. The forest is therefore described as powerful (not destructive and symbol of force, but rather as peace of the soul) and it is the place of memory. This highlights that when we have reached our inner forest, we have reached wisdom. [...]

In addition, we can notice that HD poeticizes his words even more by making an inversion of the two adverbs of negation and therefore transmits a sustained register to the 'phrase' (which does not possess punctuation). We can notice in the metaphor of nature that the tree is a symbol of the past since some are millennia old (in the forests of HD's childhood, there are Sequoias that are among the largest trees in the world but also the oldest). [...] This evocation of the two authors allows HD to open the doors of the intimate. > « we see the past already we read the future the name "past" brings forward the intimate aspect by the fact that rethinking the past, therefore memories, brings us back to the intimate again. The name "future"" serves here to highlight the anticipation and therefore that there is a kind of questioning or astonishment, especially by the gap that exists between the adv 'already' and the pers pron 'one'. [...] This allows us to criticize the current society in which we live in a literal and therefore poetic way. HD indicates here that poetry is the vector of many responses to the questions we ask ourselves. We can conclude that poetry calls its readers to introspection in order to understand what the forest, but also poetry, is trying to convey to us. [...]
[...] In fact, the adj 'long' allows to show the difficulty of achieving it and the name 'work' allows us to show that it is a task as if in society, it is a 'requirement'.
