This document examines the myth of assimilation in contemporary France, its impact on cultural diversity and social inequalities, and the challenges of reconciling universalism with cultural differences.

[...] I have been able to observe that in France, a country of human rights, we are faced with the challenge of reconciling republican universalism with respect for differences (Mbembe, 2001). Thus, for me, this myth must be deconstructed and rethought in the light of contemporary realities.
