This document is an extract from the thesis of Elizabeth Pascut titled ''Schools and families. Immigration and reception''. It traces the immigrant presence across Italian schools. The question of intercultural dimension, as written by Silva (2002), covers all areas of culture and certainly not only the world of school, though the latter is more involved due to linguistic and cultural heterogeneity of students that now characterizes all sections of the Italian school. It comes in very large measure in the school education complex. The role of the school is twofold. It must cooperate to accept children coming from different countries, and also make them grow in an intercultural perspective, and make people true "world citizens".
