This document details the 3D modeling process of the Lionel-Groulx Metro Station using Sketchup, including sources and tools used.
[...] We have obviously used the 'move' tool, which not only, as its name indicates, allows us to 'move' the selected elements, but also to copy or deform them. But often, we want to move only, but on the contrary, we witness an unfortunate deformation. To avoid this, it may be important to transform the element to be moved into a component. To replicate a shape that repeats, we have used the copy/paste tool, which avoids having to start over from the beginning, a time-consuming manipulation; which allows for a real time-saving. [...]
[...] We often used the 'create a component' tool to be able to move an element without this action disturbing the rest of the scene. In fact, often you can create an object such as a cube, but when trying to move it, you inadvertently drag the plane on which it is placed or nearby objects. This tool allows you to avoid this problem. On the other hand, it has often been necessary to break down a form that contains several components. Using a complex shape can be difficult. [...]
[...] Manipulations performed: We certainly haven't used all the Sketchup tools to create this 3D modeling. We mainly used the classic tools that allow for a 3D modeling of this level: First of all, to draw lines; we used the line tool. This allows us to make basic sketches, which other tools will come to consolidate. We needed to draw rectangular shapes (building foundations and roofs). For this, we used the rectangle tool. Often, the creation of rectangles is preceded by the need to create volumes. [...]
[...] Hence the interest of this 'erase' tool which is not only used to erase in the first sense of the term. Sources and references of images and components used: In modeling, components from 3D Warehouse are featured: [...]
[...] Modelling a kiosk on Sketchup - Lionel-Groulx Metro Station Modelling a kiosk on Sketchup. In this work, we have realized a 3D modeling using Sketchup of what is found at ground level, above the metro station. We did not model the stairs, nor a train passage, as it was not mandatory. Presentation of some perspective and plan views that allow for a general appreciation: Below, we have some perspective views of the 3D modeling that was done. In the image below, we have the entrance pavilion of Lionel-Groulx station which has a glass façade of lamp posts in the main entrance. [...]
