Facebook is a social networking website that aims to connect millions of users around the world. Users create profiles in which they include personal interests, pictures, movies etc. This information links the users to others who have posted similar information. In addition, there is an option to send emails, create events or groups of interest. Facebook truly connects people and allows them to share contacts, ideas and content. This is currently a great success, with the site having around 55 million users world-wide with 600000 in France, 10000 applications and an average time of connection per user of 20 minutes a day. However, if, on first thought, using Facebook seems pleasant and harmless, it can also turn into being very useful, or very prejudicial. Is Facebook then, a gain or a pain? To study this question, I am going to use some primary data such as books and articles, but also secondary data such as opinions and evidence from the Internet.
