This study examines the impact of divided attention on episodic memory organization and recall performance, highlighting the role of encoding and retrieval strategies.
[...] A deficit of use of the organization strategy was observed Determination of the positive role of indices in episodic memory recovery. There is an effect of the presentation of recovery indices on organization. The final part of the article dedicated to the 'Discussion' allows to appreciate the synthesis of the experimentation carried out. In this, their collected data were able to confirm the review of the literature on this theme of the division of attention on memory. From then on, for the authors, what singularizes their approach is the fact of having focused on the efficiency of the organization strategy and the confirmation that encoding is major for the organization to allow benefiting in terms of recall. [...]
[...] In fact, divided attention seemed relevant to us as a paradigm to understand our article and especially on the distribution of attention resources in relation to memory. This leads us to another essential concept, that concerning short-term memory and especially on the 'storage of small quantities of information for brief periods' (cf. Baddeley et al. 2009) in the sense that it refers to the encoding experience of the information that we were able to appreciate during the reading of the article. [...]
[...] Thus, the originality of their study is to show the role of attention at encoding and retrieval on the effectiveness of the use of the organization strategy, through the tasks called recall by examining the correlations between recall and organization. To achieve this, the method used was to analyze 121 young adults who were divided into 6 groups. The procedure of the experiment was therefore for the subjects to learn a list of 20 organized words that they had to recall, either in free recall or in cued recall. [...]
