Many stereotypes exist, but I believe the most harmful and common stereotype is racial stereotypes. "Stereotypes" refers to characterizing as a broadly held however settled and misrepresented picture or thought of a specific sort of individual or thing. An example of a stereotype is that boys should play with car toys and girls should play with dolls. A more harmful stereotype is the assumption that all black men are gangsters. Such stereotypes lead to the victim being injured, falsely arrested or murdered in certain instances. In this regard, racial stereotypes are greatly dangerous and can result within the lives of guiltless people being annihilated, or more regrettable, ended.
[...] While these stereotypes' consequences are not as severe as the gangster stereotype, it is still demeaning and inaccurate. This is similar to the opinion that men are stronger than women. These stereotypes lead to consequences such as women missing out on certain opportunities since they cannot march up to their male counterparts. Other than that, these gender stereotypes could lead to gender violence. When one gender thinks of the other gender as being weak, they are more likely to be more violent and abusive towards them. Racial stereotypes therefore subject one to such torture allows perpetrators to harm black people. It's almost like they are justifying torturing black people. According to Wilkerson "Their exclusion was used to justify their exclusion. Their degraded station justified their degradation" (125). Since they are perceived as being "lesser humans" there is harm in enslaving them. Nevertheless, such stereotypes deny the victim their rights. [...]
