Also, he resigned only six years of work at Warwick University because it was becoming too "commercial". 3. During the Cold War, he was against both blocs and urged to abandon the logic of Cold War to "reinvent" a peaceful society. The East and the West had to rebel against the development that was heading to a "thermonuclear meltdown". He firmly believed in the notion of agency, the capacity to take action, to invent a "democratic Europe". [...]
[...] "Agency" and "moral economy": The "moral economy" was the idea to introduce a morality to social relations related to Marxism. Rioting crowds were no longer associated as being "instinctive reactions" to difficulties such as hunger, but as "disciplined" and "rational" practises. In other words, norms and obligations have a major influence on social actions. This idea is still discussed and debated, criticised and praised since then. The notion of "agency" was at the heart of his "historical thinking" and designated the capacity to take action-in other words, he did not believe in fatalism and thought that everyone had a role to play in politics and society.
